E-Filing

The Clerk of the Circuit Court is pleased to offer the legal community the ability to file documents for certain civil actions electronically through the Virginia Judiciary E-Filing System (VJEFS).

How to Register
Complete the application and return to the Clerk’s Office by hand, mail or email (lksmith@vacourts.gov).  If you have filed an application in another locality, you do not need to complete an application for this locality.  Once registered  you have state wide access to any court using VJEFS.

Registration Application

Application Instruction

Section 1:  Organization Registration Information – Company/Firm information

Section 2: Authorizing Party Information – The Authorizing Party of an organization is an individual with the authority to make management decisions for the organization.

Section 3: Administrator Registration Information – This individual will be an administrator for the organization and will be able to add users, remove users, reset passwords, etc. This person does not need to be the same as the Authorizing Party and is one of the following:

Administrator Only – will be responsible for user accounts within the organization but will not have access for e-filing documents. Examples of administrator only would be an office manager or IT manager for the office.

Administrator/Attorney – an attorney who will be e-filing and will also have administrator responsibilities

Administrator/Staff – a staff member who will be e-filing on behalf of an attorney and will also have administrator responsibilities

Once your application is received, the Clerk’s Office will set you up with a login.

Keep in mind parties cannot e-file into a case that was not initiated through VJEFS. If the opposing attorney does not want to e-file, then a case initiated through e-filing will have to be removed from VJEFS and treated as a regular case.
