Concealed Handgun Permits
**DUE TO CURRENT RESTRICTIONS AND GUIDELINES IN PLACE, IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED, APPLICATIONS AND SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS BE DROPPED OF AT COURTHOUSE IN OUR DROP BOX OR MAILED IN TO OUR OFFICE**
To apply for a Concealed Handgun permit in Isle of Wight County, you must be a resident and at least 21 years of age. Concealed Handgun Applications can be picked up from the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office or by visiting the State Police Website. The processing fee is $50.00 per application.
When applying, appear at the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office with the following items:
- Completed Application
- Proof of Gun Safety Course (as of January 1, 2021, certificate must state "IN-PERSON" training. On-line classes are not acceptable after January 1, 2021) or Previous Issued Virginia Permit (You will need a photo copy or the certificate or prior permit to be submitted with application)
- Valid Picture ID – ID must be from governmental agency of the Commonwealth, US Department of Defense or US State Department (Passport). (You will need a photo copy to be submitted with application)
- A Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope
- Payment for Process Fee
If renewing your Concealed Handgun Permit, please submit your items to the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office at least 45 days prior to expiration.

Isle of Wight Circuit Court accepts the following payments: Cash, Checks (payable to Clerk of Circuit Court), Money Orders, Visa and MasterCard.
Please be aware that we charge a convenience fee for the use of a credit card. In accordance with Va. Code §19.2-353.3, returned checks and credit cards will be assessed an additional fee of $50.00 or ten percent of the value of the dishonored payment, whichever is greater.
