Road Maintenance

There are no County-owned roadways in Isle of Wight. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) owns and maintains public roads in the County and all other roads are privately owned and maintained by residents or the Homeowners Association (HOA).  VDOT is responsible for snow removal on Isle of Wight County roadways; for more info click here.

The Town of Smithfield maintains some secondary roads within the Town boundary and issues can be reported to their Engineering Department at 757-365-4253.

The Town of Windsor does not maintain any public or private roadways.

For all concerns regarding state-owned public roads in the County, call VDOT at 1-800-FOR-ROAD (367-7623) to submit an issue. Or visit VDOT’s Report a Road Problem website.

When submitting and issue for resolution, please retain your Service Request Number (also called a confirmation number or work order number). VDOT should contact you directly to resolve your issue and this number is critical in tracking progress on resolution of your issue. For help submitting a concern, please contact the Transportation Division at (757) 365-1653.
