Nike Park Road Extension

Project Background

This project was initiated based on the Brewer's Neck Corridor Study that was done in 2014.  The travel pattern data showed that Titus Creek Drive and Reynolds Drive are cut-through routes for commuters traveling from the Town of Smithfield using S. Church Street (Route 10) to Carrollton Blvd. (Route 17).  A new network linkage/connection would provide a direct travel pattern to the desired destination point, Carrollton Blvd. (Route 17) and improve safety on Titus Creek and Reynolds Drive by reducing the number of vehicles using these roads traveling to Carrollton Blvd. (Route 17).

Project Summary

The Nike Park Road Extension Project that is under design and being managed by VDOT will consist of constructing a new one-mile, two-lane collector roadway connection between Reynolds Drive to a new intersection location along US Route 17 (Carrollton Boulevard). The project will involve intersection improvements at the existing Reynolds Drive, as well as additional improvements at Route 17 that will include a signalized intersection and additional turn lanes. The project will also include the construction of a 10' wide multi-use path that will run parallel to the new facility. This project is to be fully funded through Smart Scale funding. Isle of Wight is collaborating with VDOT on right-of-way acquisition.
