Bridge Replacement over Chuckatuck Creek

Beginning as early as Nov. 9, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close a portion of Route 602 (Longview Drive) f or a total bridge replacement over Chuckatuck Creek, located between Route 601 (Audubon Road) and Route 600 (Oliver Drive) in Isle of Wight County. Work will include the complete replacement of the existing structurally-deficient bridge, built in 1951, with a new 74-foot-long two-span bridge consisting of a 25-foot-wide roadway with one travel lane in each direction.

The work will require a full road closure at the bridge on Route 602 (Longview Drive) with signed detours in place. However, access will be maintained to all existing private property and business entrances within this corridor.

Motorists traveling north on Route 602 will detour by turning right onto Route 601 (Audubon Road), left onto Route 603 (Everets Road), left onto Route 10/Route 32 (Godwin Boulevard), and left onto Route 600 (Oliver Drive).

Motorists traveling south on Route 602 will detour by turning left onto Route 600 (Oliver Drive), right onto Route 10/32 (Godwin Boulevard), right onto Route 603 (Everets Road), and right onto Route 601 (Audubon Road).

The project is anticipated to be completed in late spring 2023. All construction work is dependent upon weather conditions, and the schedule is subject to change.
