Mapping and GIS

gislogo-254x300Our Mission
The Information Technology Department provides GIS data and services to County staff and citizens, as well as outside agencies. The functionality of Isle of Wight County’s GIS will continue to grow as the availability and accuracy of new data improves and the speed and performance of software increases.

The GIS Office is generally open from 8:30 to 5:00.  Because we have a small staff, it’s possible the office may be unmanned during certain periods.  To ensure we’re available when you need us, please call first! (757-365-6278 or 6337).
Why have a GIS?
A Geographical Information System (GIS) is a computerized system use to bridge the gap between spatial data (i.e. location) and tabular information (databases). GIS provides the ability to capture, store, analyze and manage data with spatial references to the earth’s surface. GIS helps improve decision making and allows users to more easily visualize patterns, correlations, and trends.
