Meet the Staff

Mark Drumheller has served Isle of Wight County as Chief Codes Compliance Inspector since 2006 and is now the Community Development Assistant Director in charge of Inspections. The Inspections Department is responsible for the interpretation and enforcement of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code for new construction and Property Maintenance for the county and the incorporated towns of Smithfield and Windsor.

Before coming to the County, Mr. Drumheller served the Town of Windsor as the Assistant Zoning Administrator, the City of Emporia as the Building Official, Fire Official and Assistant Zoning Administrator and held numerous positions in the private sector in construction management and supervision.

Mr. Drumheller holds 37 professional certifications from the International Code Council (ICC) and 20 Virginia State certifications from the Virginia Department of Housing & Community Development (DHCD), including Certified Building Official, Commercial and Residential Combination Inspector and Plans Examiner

During his career he has served the Virginia Building and Code Officials Association on the Property Maintenance, Energy & Building Code Committees as well as Vice-Chair of Region 8.

Most recently Mr. Drumheller acquired certification as a Master Code Professional (MCP) from the International Code Council (ICC), which states this “is the highest level of ICC certification and has become the gold standard for demonstrating proficiency in the building and fire safety profession”. At the time of this achievement, there were fewer than 700 individuals nationally to earn the MCP designation.
