Mission

Our mission is to protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Isle of Wight County through effective code enforcement.

The Department of Inspections primary function is to enforce the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and associated standards regulating construction and maintenance of structures within the County.

In this capacity, the Department reviews residential and commercial construction documents for code compliance, issues permits, performs inspections, issues Certificates of Occupancy and responds to citizen’s questions about construction requirements.
