Rural Rustic Roads

In 2003, VDOT introduced the Rural Rustic Program to allow design flexibility at minimal expense to add hard surface to gravel roads that are state-maintained and meet certain criteria. Since then, the Board of Supervisors has designated many roads as candidates for rural rustic paving.

Countywide Transportation Plan

Scenic River Status for the Blackwater River 

Staff worked with the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to complete field evalution of the Blackwater River in Isle of Wight County, from Proctors Bridge to the North Carolina line. In 2009, DCR determined that the river segment qualified for Virginia Scenic River status, and in 2010, the General Assembly formally designated this stretch of the Blackwater as a Virginia Scenic River.
