Mission

The Isle of Wight General District Court handles criminal, traffic and civil cases.

Criminal cases are taken on Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. The Court hears preliminary hearings on felonies and misdemeanors committed within Isle of Wight County. There is an arraignments docket on Thursdays at 9:00 a.m.

Traffic cases are heard on several dockets as follows:

  • Town of Smithfield Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m.
  • Sheriff’s Office Thursdays at 9:30 a.m.
  • State Police Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m.
  • Town of Windsor Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m.

Civil cases to a jurisdiction limit of $15,000 are heard on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m.
