TRANSPORTATION

Isle of Wight County is well connected. The Hampton Roads Region is home to one of the busiest ports on the East Coast and is just an hour's drive from Richmond, the state capital. Goods and people travel in and out of Isle of Wight with great efficiency, thanks to a mid-Atlantic location that's within 750 miles of 75% of the nation's population, and transportation infrastructure that's second to none.

Highways

Isle of Wight County is connected to the cities and counties of Hampton Roads and the entire country's domestic markets by modern interstate and state highway systems. Isle of Wight's major roadways are Route 460, Route 58 and Route 17, which link the county to the area's interstate highways.

I-64 serves as the Hampton Roads region's main artery, from the Virginia Beach oceanfront heading west to Richmond. I-64 is accessible from Isle of Wight via Route 58 and Route 17.
I-95, the East Coast's major seaboard highway, is directly accessible via Route 58 and Route 460.
I-85, just 30 minutes from Isle of Wight, is easily accessed by Route 460 south of Richmond.
I-295, accessible within 25 minutes, is reached via Route 460 and offers additional access to I-95.
I-664, 10 minutes from Isle of Wight via Route 460, provides access to all Hampton Roads' cities.
Bridges and tunnels through this coastal region are plentiful and well maintained:

The Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel (MMMBT) is a dual tube carrying four lanes of traffic on I-664.
The James River Bridge is a four-lane, double-span bridge that directly connects Isle of Wight County with the City of Newport News.
The Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (HRBT) connects Hampton Roads' Southside and Peninsula areas.

Ports

Hampton Roads’ waterfront is the East Coast's largest, deepest natural harbor, a fitting spot for the country's leading port in total tonnage. The Port of Virginia, which hosts three terminals in the Region, links the area to more than 250 ports in 100 countries, with services from an impressive 90% of the world's shipping lines. Hampton Roads has a reputation for providing efficient, modern cargo handling and uncongested, year-round transportation. Isle of Wight's businesses enjoy direct overland access to Hampton Roads' major marine terminals: Portsmouth Marine Terminal, Norfolk International Terminals, Newport News Marine Terminal, and the privately-owned APM Terminals.

Rail

Both Norfolk Southern Corporation and CSX Transportation provide Isle of Wight companies extensive rail service for transporting raw materials and manufactured goods. Both serve industrial sites in Isle of Wight and all of Hampton Roads' port terminals, offering freight and piggyback services that open the entire country to Isle of Wight's companies.

Air

For air transportation and cargo needs, Isle of Wight's companies can choose from a range of options. All of Hampton Roads' airports are within an easy, 30-minute drive.
