The Commonwealth’s Attorney is elected by the citizens to a four-year term. The primary mission of the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney is to review and prosecute criminal offenses that occur within Isle of Wight County. In Isle of Wight, in addition to all felony cases, we also prosecute misdemeanor cases in which a victim requests assistance, all drunk driving cases, all drug cases, all domestic violence cases, all crimes that occur in schools and all misdemeanor and traffic appeals. The Commonwealth’s Attorney also provides legal training and advice to all local law enforcement and other local officials.
The Commonwealth’s Attorney for Isle of Wight County is L. Wayne Farmer. Mr. Farmer was first elected to office in November of 2008. Prior to his election, he was in private practice with offices in Isle of Wight County and the City of Suffolk. He is a graduate of James Madison University and William and Mary Law School. A life-long resident of Isle of Wight County, Mr. Farmer came home to practice law in 1996. He currently resides in Isle of Wight County with his wife, Missy, and their two sons, Lawson and Joshua.
