You are welcome to attend the next Citizens Communication Meeting for the Carrsville Highway (Route 58) Bridge Replacement Project. Tuesday, August 2 at 6333 Carrsville Hwy (old Hawkins Store lot) Time: 11:00 a.m. Citizens will have the opportunity to ask a representative from the Franklin Residency questions regarding any on-going concerns. This meeting will be held as a joint partnership meeting between VDOT, Bryant Contracting and local impacted citizens.
The goal is to continue to provide timely project information, details on upcoming work and road closures and to explore some practical ways to minimize impacts to citizens and farmers within the confines of the project work that must be accomplished.
As you may already be aware, this project will replace the bridge over the CSX Railroad and Old Myrtle Road. Work includes demolishing the existing bridge, widening and raising the bridge approaches and installation of storm water facilities. Construction of the new Carrsville Highway (Route 58) Bridge will increase vehicular capacity, ease traffic congestion along Route 58, and provide additional clearance over the railroad.
Construction started March 10, 2016 with an anticipated completion date of November 2017. Crews have completed the majority of the clearing and grubbing, along with the initial placement of fill material to widen and raise the bridge approaches. Also, crews have finished the demolition and removal of the existing bridge pier and Span 1 which is located at the West (Franklin) end of the bridge. Ongoing work includes the demolition of the Abutment A and approach concrete slab at the West (Franklin) end of the bridge. Old Myrtle will be the next road closure scheduled for fall 2016.
To keep traffic impacts to a minimum there will be detours in place with signs to re-route traffic. During all phases of construction the project the road will remain closed and a signed detour will be in place. There will be detailed signs in place to re-route traffic at all road closures. During each phase of construction, all entrances to farms and churches will remain open.
