Please come adopt us!!!!
Dogs, puppies, cats and kittens are available with no adoption fee. Puppies and kittens must be neutered or spayed by the age of six months. Dogs and cats over six months old must be neutered or spayed within 30 days of adoption. Anyone living in the county may adopt from us. Other areas we adopt to are Williamsburg, Newport News, Suffolk, Surry, Southampton. If the animal you are wanting to adopt is already spayed or neutered, that animal may be adopted to anywhere in Virginia.
Our goal here at the shelter is to see every animal adopted or transferred out to a dedicated rescue group. The shelter always accepts volunteers 7 days a week. You must come in and fill out a volunteer application and then you may come whenever we are open. Volunteers will be allowed to bath animals, walk dogs, socialize with the animals, clean cat and dog kennels, and help out with any other functions in the shelter that they are trained on. We would like to Thank each and every one of our volunteers.
Volunteers are also needed for transporting dogs and cats to rescues.
We are in need of fosters to foster dogs from the shelter until they can find a forever home.
Donations are always welcome, to see a list of items needed click the link on the right for wish list.
The shelter is located on Poor House Road just off Route 258 near the Courthouse Complex. Operating hours are Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 4 p.m. You may contact Animal Control at 365-6318.
