Agriculture Education
Children are the next generation and it is critical that they are educated about where their food comes from early on. Isle of Wight County Rural Economic Development partners with the Virginia Cooperative Extension through 4-H to offer agriculture education programs at the local libraries and at family night out programs with Parks & Recreation on various agriculture related topics.

Agriculture in the Classroom
In addition, the Virginia Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom www.agintheclass.org is available by request to perform teacher workshops in local public and private schools. All agriculture education materials are SOL correlated. For information about teacher workshops contact us.

Peanut Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) Farm Days

May of each year
The SWCD hosts Isle of Wight County Farm Days every May for second graders. This is a fantastic opportunity for children to interact with animals, agriculture professionals, and farmers. Farm Day is a hands-on field trip where children walk away with a better understanding of how butter is made, what crops are grown in Isle of Wight, the different layers of the soil, germination of soybeans, conservation, and many other topics.
